Sims 3 Hair texture help

Hey guys!
It's been so long.. I've been so busy with school but I'll probably be more active on this site for now on.
So I watched this tutorial for meshing sims 3 hair

at the 19:46 mark, how do you make that transparent background with realistic hair layered above?
..
Where is everybody?
